Spotify, one of the largest streaming companies in the world, says it will soon start labeling AI profiles posing as human artists.
It's no secret that Spotify is the dominant player in the music streaming market, with 293 million paid subscribers and 761 million monthly active users across both paid and free tiers. Along with massive market dominance has come a fair bit of controversy in recent years.
Music fan Leon Keenan, 20, also supported the labelling system. He said AI-generated music should not necessarily be removed from Spotify, but listeners should be told clearly when they are hearing it. Ellie Sumner, 21, said the label was necessary. She said she had previously failed to realise that some content was AI-generated.
